Brad Jordon aka Scarface – Hip Hop’s most respected
It fills me with absolute pleasure to hail, and pay homage to one of hip hop’s all-time greats and most respected artists, Brad Terrence Jordon, known worldwide has Scarface.
Born November 9th, 1970, in Houston, USA, Scarface rose to fame has the clear outstanding member of the legendary hip hop group, The Geto Boys. Although The Geto Boys still remain one of hip hop’s hardest, most authentic groups, Scarface’s versess was always the one I’d be listening out for and the one that would stand out that little bit extra. I have heard it said he wrote most of their material anyway, which by no means is no shame, to have legend help you with your work. It only makes sense.
When talking about Scarface the artist, you’re talking about an artist with a totally unique style and perspective to how he approaches his rhymes. Widely recognized as one of the game’s best storytellers, and at his exceptional best, he’s widely acknowledged as one of the deepest. To add to his long list of personal accolades, he will always go down has a hip hop thorough bread. But there is one accolade that the great man refuses to accept, despite it handed to him by many, including myself. And that’s king of the south.
With a career spanning over three decades, including his time with The Geto Boys, Scarface has grown to become one of the games my respected OG’s, earning him a place on many top five dead or alive lists. To see the true level of respect, and to see how highly he’s rated as a lyricist amongst his peers, you only have to take a look at the long list of legendary artists, from different generations, and from all coasts, that the Geto Boy member has featured with. With the likes of, 2 Pac, Ice Cube, Dr Dre, Jay Z, Nas, Akon, Master P, and Ludacris, the Scrarface feature list starts to turn into a who’s, who in hip hop list.
Out of his, ten plus solo albums, the one that I would say is my personal favorite is his 1994 release, The Diary. But make no mistake his other albums such as, Last of a Dying Breed, Mr Scarface, and Untouchable, are not for behind the old school classic.
In terms of his contribution, and to his input to hip hop culture, Mr. Scarface, the former president of Def Jam South, has to be listed as an all-time great. This no gimmick, solid personality, has served the test of time, gone toe to toe with the best of them, all compounding his position as a hip hop legend.
Throughout the three decades I have been totally hooked on hip hop, I have seen many come and go, and in terms of longevity, only the likes of, Jay Z, Ice Cube, and artist of that ilk can be considered on the same level. And in terms of lyrics, and skills, you only have to look at Scarface’s resume of features, to see how highly he is rated by his peers.
So, to summarize this article, on the behalf of me, and everyone at One-Stop Hip Hop UK, for your contribution to hip hop culture, Brad Jordan, aka, Scarface, we would like to crown you the king of the south, and an official hip hop all-time great.
