LONG LIVE THE KANE

Long live the Kane’ the debut album from my first ever favorite rapper, Big Daddy Kane, is an undoubted classic hip hop master piece that helped elevate hip hop to new levels in it early years. This ten track banger was released in 1988 on Cold Chillin’ Records and was produced by Juice Crew maestro DJ Marley Marl.  Not only did this album shoot BDK into the hip hop hall of fame but it also provided the sound track to many of my teen years.

Every aspect of this album epitomizes Big Daddy Kane’s iconic style and swagger. Starting with the album’s title and memorable cover of the king on his throne surrounded by three beautiful ladies, both supporting lyrical content that helped establish Kane has one of the most influential hip hop artists of his era with an image and style that has influenced generations of artists.

Ten dope cuts make up ‘Long live the Kane’ with four released has singles. From the hi tempo hip hop dance tracks ‘Set it off’ and ‘Raw’ to the smooth laid back ‘A’int no half stepping’ Kane displays potent delivery, phenomenal word play, hard hitting punch lines, on songs with solid concepts and diverse subject matter.

Long Live the Kane is a classic album that is a must for any hip hop collection and one that is definitely worth checking out or revisiting.
