EPMD – UNFINISHED BUSINESS
UNFINISHED BUSINESS is the second album release from legendary rap duo EPMD aka Erick and Parish Making Dollars. Released on FRESH/SLEEPING BAG RECORDS in the summer of 1989. UNFINISHED BUSINESS is a 12 track album produced by EPMD and is the follow up to their debut album, the much acclaimed ‘Strictly Business’
After setting the bar sky high with their debut, I would say they raised it even higher with their second album. Unlike many artist who have successful first albums and flop on the second, EPMD came back even stronger with their second installment, and hit us with a record that features all time classic hip hop joints like ‘SO WAT CHA SAYIN’ and ‘THE BIG PAY BACK’,
Whiles helping place EPMD has one of the all time greatest hip hop acts UNFUNSHED BUSINESS was one of the dope old school albums that helped turn me into the hip hop junkie I am today. During a period when the majority of hip hop was very loud and in your face, EPMD made their mark with a much more laid back brand of rap music. But not only did EPMD have a very distinctive sound, they had a distinctive look and swag to match topped with the fisherman’s hats that became the groups trademarks.
Has a partnership and has a rap duo Erick and Parish complemented each other like apple pie and ice cream, and it has to be said their laid back slow flow was twice has nice. But, just like all dope albums has well has a flows and dope lyrics, you need the banging beats to back them up. In Erick Sermon and Parish Smith you have two dope producers in there own right who combined their different production styles and rap skills to deliver a hip hop master piece.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS is a dope non offensive hip hop album, an album just like the group EPMD that will always be recognized has iconic and trend setting. A must for any hip hop collection, and more then well worth a revisit.
